SOBS Kirkcaldy Support Group is one of a network of over 60·self-help support groups across the UK, where you can meet with other people who have been bereaved by suicide. · SOBS Kirkcaldy · meets on the first Wednesday of every month and meetings last for two hours. ·
Support groups provide an opportunity to listen, share, gain understanding and to connect with others. We know it takes courage to come to a group. ·People are free to talk and listen as they wish. You won’t have to talk if you don’t want to and you don’t have to come again. You are under no obligation to stay for the whole session if you decide it’s not for you. ·Most people return after their first meeting and find that over time, they gain the confidence to speak about themselves. ·After a while they may also find they can offer support to others. ·If you come to a group but decide that it is not the right thing for you at this time, you are welcome to return at a later date when you feel ready.
You can find out where your nearest group meets by contacting 0300 111 5065 and someone will tell you about a group near you and give directions to the meeting place.
SOBS Kirkcaldy is the only self help group for people bereaved by suicide in Fife and as there are no groups in the neighbouring local authorities of Dundee and Perth and Kinross, we encourage you to contact us if you are from Fife’s surrounding areas and would like to come to the group.
If you have been bereaved or affected by suicide or if you are supporting someone else, the SOBS UK website has a useful section that will help you to understand how a bereavement by suicide is different, how it affects people, ways to support and some practical issues to be aware of.
